Jeff: All your photos are great!! But I think something is amiss with this one or its caption. It's on Google Earth at Carlsbad, CA. There are no factories at this location in Carlsbad. There IS a power plant, the Encina Power Plant, but it has a single stack (you can see its shadow on Google Earth) and the plant in the picture appears to have two. The photo is captioned as being "near Farr, California." I'm a native Californian and never heard of any town or city by that name. ??? FYI

Indeed, this is the Encina power plant, and so far as I know, it is still operated by SDG&E, the local power company in San Diego County. As to whether it may have only one stack or more, I can not vouch as it has been a fair number of years since I was there, but it has undergone a few changes and expansions since its initial construction. However, looking closely at this picture, it appears that what may be seen as a stack on the left portion seems likely to be one of the tranmission line supports, not a stack.

If you look closley the second stack is actualy a Power line pole of some sort. And yes they factory only has one pole.

Oh and Farr is in Carlsbad according to google earth.

This is Encina Powerplant. Its a hydroelectric powerplant, generating electricity by taking in seawater from the adjacent lagoon, and boiling it to create steam which powers electric generators.

the big stack you see (there is only one), is to vent the smoke from the burners for the boilers.

i live down the street from the plant. its been there for as long as i can remember, although im only 21 so thats not saying much

i took a tour of it once in 4th grade. pretty amazing stuff inside.

I live up the hill from Encina Power Plant, which is pictured here, not a factory in the popular sense, but it is a factory producing electrical power... Nice photography...wish I could do that.

Cheers from Vista, CA!
