Thanks Minnjohn. I grew up in and lived in Massachusetts for my first 43 years. When I moved out here, I teased people that "Minnesota doesn't have any history yet."
The history here is different, but it can be found. A lot of it (such as the railroads or the iron mines) have as much to do with people back east as with what was going on in Minnesota, but others (such as the 1862 Dakota uprising) are virtually unheard of back east.
Minnjohn, no matter where you go, there are always going to be people who ignore history, juat as there will always be those who ignore art, or science, or nature, or money, or any other subject. When I worked in South Boston, there were people at that company, in their 60's at the time, who had never been the three miles to see the USS Constitution, "Old Ironsides." A few had never been outside South Boston in their entire lives!
