That view from Florenze.. :( ..there everything are allowed and possible! (I mean, in art and beauty)

Did You seen Sergey Duhanin photo from Moscow?

Pasjoesja, on December 15, 2007, said:

Wow, Ainars, that is a wonderful picture of a great monument, 'horses swimming upstream', is it? - thanks for pointing that out...- And yes in Florence things are not so serious as in Rome

Ainars M -2, on December 15, 2007, said:

Pasjoesja: You're welcome! :) And thanks to You for another Rome link! Well, in Rome they are more serious than others elsewere.. :D

I heard than St.Peterburg in Russia are called aka 'Nord Venice'?

Pasjoesja, on December 17, 2007, said:

St Peterburg is the Russian Venice of the North.

Brugge is the Flemish Venice of the North.

But Amsterdam is the Dutch Venice of the North.

fortunatly there is only one Venice of the South:)

This is best joke I heard! D

I believe, we must use word "venice" forwards as place characteristics name: 1)if in city limits are seen more than one channel and more than two pedestrian bridges over those each channels; 2)if in country are not other cities which called so far aka 'local'Venice 3) and if city are located in west or north or south or east from any point of reference! :D

For example - if Russia already has North Venice, then is not available to give such city names to other cities in Russia! But I not heard so far than Poland, or Germany or Switzerland named any cities as local Venices?

The same idea as used now with success for label name 'Vodka'! American vodka, Russian vodka, and so on!

hello Ainars,

these defenitions are too easily valid for too many places!!

I think we must make SOME restrictions, and at the same time create new possibilities.

therefore I would like to propose- at 1) at least two canals, one real RIVER and FOUR bridges. - at 2) not more than 1 venice of the North, South, East or West, but possibility of other adjectives, like NEW or LITTLE or OUR VERY OWN -Venice. at 3) we may allow also northeast southeast etcetera.

By the way, I found a nice place called New Venice :-).

cheers Paul

Hello Paul, glad to see, You like my idea about cities naming conventions! :D

I accept Your restrictions too, but we also must agree on even more restrictions, eventually to cut on possible naming conventions cheatings in future.

Cities, before they asked come forwards known in public under friendly names ---Venice) must have OLD channels, at least 50 years old!

City MUST be, with clear naming history - not to be named before in other friendly names aka Little Rome or Tropical Moscow or East Berlin! :D

Hope this regulations will be accept?

If we look at serious to current situation right now, and try search GE map for Venice - we will get menu with 16 places!

With Riga situation aren't much better - ONLY 14 places, including Nigeria and India.

This situation are still under control, if we compare with search results for Berlin - 77 sites!

I thought than Copenhagen are enough local and specific name - but who gives! :( 5 places!

Does anybody knows any place names issued ONLY one single time???
