La Savonnière - The Soap House: A historic stone Hansel & Gretel type cottage overlooking the small town of Esparros. At the turn of the century this home was used as the local soap making center. Stone slab floors still show the markings of the stone masons who cut the stones. In one area, depressions in the floor stones can be seen where the large soap making pots were positioned.

Records indicate that this structure, now a maison, was in operation as early as 1750 by a woman of the name Simonette. The structure now used as a Gite adjacent to the house, was used a a Butcherie for the attached building, a cochonnière, now called a Pig-sty. This was a multi-use ensemble of buildings indicating the health and vitality of the community during that period. The house, gite and sty have been continuously occupied since that period of time.
