Alicia, your words are so sensitive and thoughtful. You have the kindest heart.
Thank you so much for your concern about Dave. He is truly doing so well. It has been a tough two weeks, but I think the worst is over now. They said that the first two weeks are the hardest. Now it will just be a matter of physical therapy and trying to keep him still and quiet while it heals all the way. We can do it though, I am determined. He is a very strong boy, and I swear, he knows what's going on too! He's really part human I think! He understands everything! =)
Thank you again for checking in on us. You are a wonderful friend.
Warmest regards,
Mary Alice

Mary Alice, it's a great relief to hear that Dave is past the worst. I'm not sure what happened to him, but it sounds quite a major thing. You never know if it is more difficult for your pet when they are injured, or for you, as you hurt with them. Dave is extremely lucky to have you caring for him, and I'm sure he understands that as well. Cats and dogs I think understand much more than us limited humans will ever know ;).
I'm just catching up briefly, and will look for more comments about Dave. Thank you for your update and I hope you are having a relaxing weekend. Very best to you, alicia

My LLS,
You are so kind. In your other message you had guessed that an ACL was a ligament. You are very right! It is a Anterior Cruciate Ligament. It seems to be a common injury among large, bulky athletic types. The vet said he could have torn it just playing hard, running across the yard, or whatever. We're really not sure when or where it happened, but he had gotten where he couldn't put any weight on it at all, and was just carrying the leg around like a dead limb. It was breaking my heart seeing him in so much pain, and I knew something had to be done. We took him to this really great specialist up near Atlanta, and he did the surgery within weeks. Dave is really showing great progress now. We are able to start walking now, up to 15 minutes, three times a day. I'm so happy, and he is too! He's doing better and better each time that we go out. =)
Thank you SO much for asking about him, and for your genuine concern. You're such a very sweet friend.
I hope this evening finds you well. I will catch up with you more very soon.
My very best to you,
Mary Alice

Happy Paul,
Good evening, and thank you so much for stopping by and checking in on my boy.
Dave went back to the vet yesterday actually. It was for his eight week re-check with X-Rays. He said that the implants were in place and there was good healing in parts of the tibia, but he wanted to see more callus formation and bony union in the other actual cut site. He said the healing was progressing without problems, but it was just going a little slower than he had hoped. He still won't allow Dave to do any playing or running, and we have to go back in 5 weeks for more X-rays. Maybe by then he will get a good report. It is SUCH a struggle trying to keep him quiet and still.
Regardless, he is still doing well, and we will just keep on with what we've been doing.
I hope all is well over in your world. I've been so busy that I haven't had much time to play on here.
I sure do appreciate you checking in though, and I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend.
Very kind regards,
Merry Alicia

MaryAlice i only just now found out about dave's ACL injury back in 08,i think i no how hard that must of been trying to keep him carm, and the long repair time on both of you would have been so draining,I did the same injury to my left knee in a skiing race and i drove every one crazy during my op recovery. He really is a fine animal and friend im sure. Lloyd.

Lloyd, Wow ....... How crazy that you actually went through the same repair as Dave! How is your knee now? I trust you recovered completely? Yes, it was quite a challenge with Dave, but the surgery sure did work well. I hope you are also doing great, and that you'll be extra careful not to do the same thing to your other knee one day. I don't know how it is with humans, but with dogs, once they tear one knee, the chances of tearing the other knee are EXTREMELY high ~ practically expected actually! Take it easy and stay away from skiing! ;) Best regards,
Mary Alice

Lloyd, dear gosh ..... that is crazy! How bad for you! Well, at least you recovered well, and are back on your feet again some 20 years later. I bet you're extra careful these days, eh? Gentle slopes all the way!
Take care, my far away friend,

Ali, No, No, he was not angry at all. This is just the expression he makes naturally. He is a gentle and loving soul. I don't think he's ever been angry a day in his life. :)
Thank you for visiting.
