Thanks, ArdenZ! This is an old quarry (I should have mentioned it in the title). There are several of them on the island. Originally, they were carved with relatively small tools, then with big machines, and eventually were abandoned when concrete and cinder blocks appeared. At that point, people started to used them as giant garbage pits. Now, they are in the process of being cleaned up and more or less maintained as historical heritage.
