I really hadn't seen this place before! So pretty! I feel guilty sometimes Jim, that so many of the beautiful cottages have been bought by holiday let companies. I worry whether the young people in the area are 'priced out'.

Very nice, your Whitby, Jim! Much greetings, Bea

Dear Paula, it is true what you say. Many of these gorgeous old cottages that could have been bought for a song not so many years ago, are beyond the reach of most locals. We have some of the highest property prices and also the lowest incomes in the land.

Hey, welcome Bea. It is always a real nice surprise to know that you have called. You make my day sunnier Bea.

Cheers and thankyou.

Greetings and welcome Andres.

This quaint old town, like so many others in this region known as Yorkshire, has great character. The same can be said for many of its occupants.

It is a fact that the indigenous population are the most friendly you are ever likely to meet.

Your visit and thoughtfull comment is much appreciated. Thankyou Andres.

A lovely shot. My Mam & Dad used to go to Whitby quite regularly and they loved it. I have many historical framed mono prints around my house - I love them. If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to change one of your photo's to mono to add to the group.

Hello Pali, Great to chat once more.

It is my pleasure that you should wish to add this to your familys' collection. Please Pali, feel free.

Many of the old sepia photos of Whitby were taken by the late Frank Meadows Sutcliffe, around the turn of the 19/20th century. They are brilliant by anyones standards.

The other famous and excellent photographer, was a guy called Francis Frith. His shots were mainly in B+W.

I hope that you have fully recovered from your accident Pali.

Warm wishes Bonny Lass.

Hi Jim Yes My prints are by Sutcliffe. My favourite is Trees in a misty valley (I think he's the one I try to emulate when taking shots of the mist in the Dandenongs). I also love St. Hilda's Terrace a beautiful snow scene. I have 5 all together. It's funny but Mam and Dad had never been to Whitby - I bought the prints at a Sunday market here and they went to Whitby for the first time that same weekend. Spooky! It's nice when they come here 'cause 3 of the prints are in their bedroom.

I think I'll have to find the business card of the person I bought them from and build the collection. I could get them from The Sutcliffe Gallery but it would cost a fortune for postage - the people here buy the prints from them then frame them up in Melbourne.

I'm still off work with the ankle and am having Hydro therapy now - it will come good eventually I am told.....cannot be soon enough! I can only be on my feet for about an hour at a time before I feel like a wet dishcloot!

Cheers, for the natter pet..... ta ra,

Pali xx

Hello Freddy, No, this is not my home, nor would I wish to live here. It is a noisy part of town. I live in a very quiet (apart from the noisy seagulls) area close to the harbour and town centre. I will e-mail some photos of my home soon.

Cheers Fred and warm wishes mijn friend.--Jim
