Због тога сам је и сликао, јер ни ја нисам видео такав мотив на православним фрескама.

Great, Misa! Is it a modern work? Can you tell a little about this Monastery?

Best greetings, Eva

Miša M. on July 18, 2008

Thanks dear Eva for your interest in this orthodox monastery.

Well this monastery is one of the 17 monasteries located on mountain Fruška Gora, that spreads along Danube, nearby Novi Sad town.

According to tells, monastery was founded by late Serbian king Dragutin (1276-1282), and first written evidence comes from Turkish books dated 1562.

Church is dedicated to St. Dimitrije. It is plane building with dome, and many years later in 1753 high bell tower, in baroque style shaped, was added. Church walls were beautifully painted in period between 1567-68. Some parts of these paintings at the altar and on the facade are still preserved, although the monastery was severely damaged during the WW II. It is partially reconstructed and this is why it has new paintings, with this interesting detail I have never seen in any church so far. Best regards to you and lovely town of Kiev, Miša.

Merci Stef!

I'm glad if you like it. This detail is unusual for the wall paintings in Serbian Orthodox churches, so I had to make a shot. It says underneath the detail " Souls of righteous men in God's hand!" Best wishes and take care, Miša.

Miša M. on July 19, 2008

You are right Stef.

In Serbian Orthodox Christianity there is a tradition to paint all the interior walls of churches with frescoes, showing mostly themes from Holy Bible, but also some interesting moments of the time when church was built. You can find plenty of beautiful frescoes (wall paintings) like Simeon Mirotocivi , or like the fresco of Angel Gabriel - White Angel - Beli Anđeo.

For your knowledge fresko of White Angel was the first picture ever transmitted by the satellite, and it was twice awarded as the most beautiful wall painting on the world!!!

I hope you will understand this explanation, and if not tell me, and I will ask my wife to help translating this text to French.

My best wishes for you and take care, Miša.
