Murray River near Nanga

The first of the winter rains have come and the river flow is still low. What looks like snow on the water is in fact foam caused by organic material in the river, not a sign of high water quality. The water is tainted by clearing for agriculture and the effects of the activity upstream. It's still a lovely stream on which to camp and canoe or fish. No-one has ever suffered health problems from eating the fish but you wouldn't want to depend on them as your major food source. So many of West Australia's rivers are affected by agriculture.
