How very beautiful, Marilyn. It is a fabulous capture.

I love how just a bit of the old lighthouse is peaking out from above the trees. It leaves one wanting desperately to see more.

Thank you, Mary Alice. I do want desperately to see more, but I haven't figured out any way to get there!

The odd thing is that I've been familiar with the immediate area for decades, but I didn't know about this old lighthouse so I had never looked for it--and most people wouldn't see it without hunting. But it was mentioned in a book my husband is reading, so we looked. What a gem we found--from a distance!

This lighthouse turned out to be ineffective, so in 1869 the upper and lower range lights were constructed. When sailors lined up those two buildings by day or the two lights at night, they knew they could steer a safe course into the harbor.
