The above photograph was taken from the site of the long gone Monument Bridge that straddled the lockpit between Queen's Dock (now Queen's Gardens) and Prince's Dock. Some of the bridge's foundations have been preserved and are located in the pit you can see in the foreground. This area was also the site of the old Beverley Gate where King Charles 1 was told to buzz off at the very beginning of the English Civil War.
