Dear Berend,

These trees are commonly called Norfolk Island Pines and are common in ornamental beachside plantings such as this: Esperance WA, Burleigh Heads Q, Manly NSW are examples. The botanical name is Araucaria heterophylla.

Cooks Pine is similar but different in form: it is much more columnar in shape. Araucaria columnaris is a native of new Caledonia. Norfolk Island is a beautiful place, a very significnat part of early Australian colonial history, and a great place for a holiday.

May I invite you to add a Araucaria tag to this image and then the image will join the global group of Araucaria, there being different species native to Queensland, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island, Papua New Guinea and Chile-Argentina-Brazil.

Berend, you may also wish to see the variety of these beautiful trees through my Araucaria tag.

Thank you so much dear Ian. Now I know the right name of the tree I also know that I had one in my house once. You can buy them here at the Florist shop but only meant for in house. Greetings Berend
