awesome pics! I'm wondering if I am up to the trip. I'll bet that it is cold up there, and you'd need sunblock.

Thank you tinbasher1. The height is approximately 2600m and it's only a bit cold at night. The trip is very nice and as you can see the sight is indeed spectacular.
Cheers, Christophe

Wow! I'm delighted that you replied! Can you get to the lake without too much trouble? Is there any foliage in the crater? Is the water extremely acidic or is it safe to swim? Do many people make it in there? 2600M isn't too bad. I expect that you can probably get to within 1000M by car, no? Is it reasonable to think that one could climb to the crater rim and return in one day?

I just love volcanoes. My first ever experience with one was on Haleakala, Maui. I climbed the Soufriere in St. Vincent in 74, It erupted about 6 years later. That was an awesome experience as well.

Hi tinbasher1. It's been quite a while since our last conversation. I saw your last message but never saw the one you sent just prior to that. Sorry for the extremely late reply. To answer your questions: you can get to the lake without too much trouble, meaning you don't need any any special gear but you need to be fit. Getting to the crater rim is easier though (never steep). I think most people make it. If you want to climb up to 3700 meters (the top), that's possible too but I'm told that only 1/3 makes it. We didn't try. There are a lot of plants there and the fishermen who fish in the lake made a path. This also means that the water is not acidic but it's too cold to swim. A cae can take you to 600 or 800 meters (I forgot but it's something like that). Cheers, Christophe

Bedankt, odeveld! Echt fenomenaal. Groetjes, Christophe
