Congratulations Neil on your global photo collection, most of which are great. If the system works you should get a message via Google Earth re this pic. Good pic but you've located it (and labeled it) on the Google Earth image in the Potestant Shanklin Rd. Some 'Prodies' would be positively incensed by this as Sands is treated like a saint by the Republican community. The mural and the Sinn Fein HQ is in fact in the Falls Rd.(Imagine mis-siteing the KKK HQ in the heart of a back area of LA! I suspect that your memory was confused during the Black Cab tour which covers both community areas!) My relocation isn't precise and it needs moving alongside the other pic of the same scene.

PS The Sinn Fein HQ has now moved and the mural re-done (its rather more 'polished'). See it on the Wikipedia site about Bobby Sands.

Somehow I doubt this mural is located on the ultra-loyalist Shankill Road...

Yes, this mural is along the lower Falls near Dunville Park. Early in the Troubles, Sands and his family moved from Rathcoole to Twinbrook, a Catholic estate many miles south of this mural, which has been redone on numerous occasions. Note the towers of the Maze prison in the background and the advertisement for An Phoblacht (Republican News), a mouthpiece for Sinn Fein/PIRA.

Modog, If you can suggest a location, I'd be happy to move it. The picture was took in '99, and I was just guessing.

Neil, I think your photo is at the corner of Sevastapol St. and the Falls Road (c. 1999 as you've noted). Looks as though the building has been modernized if not completely replaced, complete with updated mural, still of Sands. If you move yours to Sevastapol, near Clonard St., you'll see more recent views of the same spot (old neighborhood of old friends in West Belfast).
