While there was orange flagging (plastic ribbon) marking the route of the trail buried under hundreds of fallen trees, it was not always the route to follow. There was much zigzagging from tree to tree trying to find the "safest" route.

It looks dreadful, Larry! I didn't know there was recently a storm in your region! We still see the scars of the storm "Lothar", which was devastating in 1999 in our country, it seems to take more than a decade to heal them.

Hi May.

This storm was in December 2007. As I do more hiking, I am seeing more of the effects from that storm. While it can be disturbing to see the results on forests and rivers that I have grown fond of, I realized it is all part of the natural scheme of things.
