It's 20 years old, grainy and taken on a 110 camera, but I still think its a great shot.

In memory of those who died on September 11, 2001

It's hard to describe just how huge the towers were. Even from two miles away they looked almost as if you could reach out and touch them. Shots like this are invaluable.

Tony Reid, on July 22, 2008, said:

You could see them for miles, and at night they shone like a beacon. Thanks for your comments purdey

I suppose the Google guys being all the way out west in California might have something to do with their geography getting a bit hazy east of the Rockies! I'm surprised someone in the New York City's Mayor's office hasn't been on the phone to them ;-)

Tony Reid, on July 22, 2008, said:

I can understand them (the mapping agency) getting it wrong on some way-out rural location, but this is Lower Manhattan! In the busiest city in the world!

And you are right, I would of thought someone "official" would of complained by now!

Very nice shot Tony. Brings back nice memories for me. Thanks.

Tony Reid, on July 22, 2008, said:

Hi VKeith. I remember commenting way back in early April that I was going to get some of my old shots and get them on Panormaio. Well, I finally got hold of a scanner, drivers and software. Plus I found the shots I wanted.

And here is one the main shots. I just had to share.

Great shot Tony. As you can imagine images of this place still evoke some emotion from those of us in the States. Interestingly these towers were brought down while I was on my honeymoon in Shenandoah National Park. I remember well crossing the Tappan Zee bridge over the Hudson on the way down and seeing the towers. Then on the way home as we crossed the bridge again we looked toward Manhattan and they were gone. Pretty much rocked our world. Thanks for posting this. Bruce

Tony Reid, on July 22, 2008, said:

Thank you for the story, Bruce. I can well believe the emotions these images still have. I was pretty much rocked when I first saw them over 20 years ago. I haven't been back for many years now.

I felt I should share the shot instead of leaving it shuttered deep in an album.

Thank for your comments.

I am so happy that you shared this photo on the NYC forum! It is not only beautiful, but also carries history. We just visited the Big Apple few weeks ago, and I was still missing this wonderful TWIN TOWERS. The panoramic photos are just not the same without it.

This is a great photo, if you did not tell, I would not know that it is not the original.

Thank you sooo much for your contribution! :-)

Tony there,s 1,000,s of shots of this area in panoramio, doubt if there,s any room left in the map and if you think that one,s grainy>>>>>>>>. All that bloody rain of yours has moved up to the West Scotland, have,na seen the Sun for a week, and the rain,s so heavy it,s making new Lochs and bursting old dams. scally

Tony Reid, on August 11, 2008, said:

Probably not, **Scally, so one more won't hurt. Anyway, I thought I'd share the pic regardless.

The rain is now falling very heavily here as well.

The rain is bsically stopped - just the occasional light drizzle. Plus I have noticed it is getting lighter earlier in the mornings now - around 7am.

Scally, on August 12, 2008, said:

Well it,s still drizzling here and it,s getting darker every day, Do you never get those frighting Post French Atomic test skies now? They were some sights,What skies you could have been posting in them days, never mind I believe they left a legacy of Strontium90 on the hills surrounding Wellington, that will not fully decade for 50,000 yrs. cheers scally,

The French weren't really welcome here after they sank the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland harbour.

Apparently NZ is Nuclear Free (and proud of it) since 1985
