not sure about position of this photograph-it was taken from the train, on the west highland railway from Fort William to Mallaig.
Of anyone can accurately place it, feel free
the position of this photographh? not sure, but if you know for sure-feel fre to update it. I was travelling on the west highland railway from Fort william to Mallaig
Thank you, it's an honour I hope others think me worthy of.
The weather was pretty awful that evening, just as we came nearer to our destination, the clouds were liting, showing glimpses of sky. The formation of the clouds were asking, no begging to be captured!
When I can paint again, my intensions are to try and capture such scenes in my favourite medium-watercolour.
By the way, the view is from a carriage window, on the journey by steam train from FORT WILLIAM to MALLAIG.
Well, thanks to a bit of research, looking at other Panoramio pictures along this railway line, I am almost certain that the proper position for this photo of mine is White sands-
What a beautiful picture, Mike! I like the landscape and the cloudy sky! Isn't it amazing that pictures of bad weather can be so beautiful? This one is really great! Greetings, Anne
Thanks Anne it was shot from a nice warm carriage on the Jacobite Steam Train to Mallaig-but I could not accureatly place it until I tracked down the position on Sheena Ann Brown's site
Your comments act as a spur to me, I would like to shoot more 'Manky-weather' shots, but I am a trifle delicate in my dotage!
Glad you found your place...actually, I couldn;t tell where it was either. fortunately I took the photo on the way going TO Mallaig...and the shops in Mallaig had postcards and I got the place from there, so thank the postcards in the shops at Mallaig...if it had been left up to me it would have just been..'beach...erm...scotland!'
Sheena-Ann
ps.. We were extremely lucky with the weather. It was chucking it all night before we left from Fort William and sometime on the train, but the nearer we got to Mallaig, and all the wayhome it was great...however...as soon as we got off the train again...it ed it down...ah well..."Scotland's summers", as they say!!!
I suppose for your sake the position of this "disputed" photo gets settled but, Mike, I really don't care. The picture itself is beautiful!! Well done!
And it's a good time to send my wishes for a joyous Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year. Greetings from snowy Canada. Marilyn
I am following your trip to Mallaig, and here at Morar the Scottish Gloom has robed you of the sight of the longest stretch of pure white sand outside the Caribean , and not even a hint of Morag, LOL cheers scally.
Hey scally
Wee's this Morag?
Aaav bin tae the white sands and emerald sea at Clashnessie, and Melon Udrigle too, both much higher up the West coast, so I don't feel as though I need to see the Whitesands at Morar, I reckon it was pure luck to get weather like this on that 3 day trip, but it was really quite bright all the way up to Fort William, same on the way back too!
Am ganna re-aquaint naasel wi yer thumbnails reet noo, jest to get a wee surprise again
You tek good care, mind how ye gan!
