It's one of the main medieval cities in France, not as big as Carcassonne but probably more genuine.
If you know Carcassonne I must say that it is a very important work of rehabilitation of the past and of the Middle-Age due to the incentive of Napoleon III with whom started really the idea of preserving the heritage of France: various projects were conducted under the rule of Proper Mérimée and with the famous architect Violet-le-Duc.
The next time you come in Paris try to visit Provins and also the caste of Pierrefonds, completely surged out of the imagination of Violet-le-Duc (in a similar but more realistic way as the casles of King Ludwig II of Bavaria).
