Thank you Paul, they look very different from our limestone walls, they are very uniform in their construction. The volcanic rock used in building the walls looks as though it's from that area. I zoomed out on the map and saw signs of volcanic disturbance. Thanks a lot Paul for getting back to me with the photo:)

Remember to find some more of your poppy pics!

There are fields of these rocks all around the area, Anita. They are "ejecta" (volcanic spit-up). The last eruption in this area was Mount Lassen in 1915 although there were many before then. There are organizations around that make a living collecting and re-selling the rocks.

My wife and I tell visitors from the UK that these fields are "rock ranches" and that the ranchers come around periodically and harvest their crops. Very few believe us!

Poppy pictures? Just like a woman - give them one thing and they ALWAYS want more! (kidding, honest!)

Hi Paul, I wonder if you can help me with a question that foxes me! Take a look at THIS photo, and can you tell me how this path was constructed without the tide coming in and out getting in the way? Cheers my knowledgeable friend!

Hola minero.

Always happy to share my knowledge, Fai!

Hola Juanjo.

Greetings from northern California,

Paul
