This is not the police memorial - the inscription on this structure is 1914 - 1918 which would suggest that this refers to World War I. Thank you so much for pointing out that mistake. I got my information from a guidebook but you're absolutely right.

On the internet I learnt this is the Delville Wood War Memorial.
