The bridge of Meung sur Loire is fabled to be the meeting point between D'Artagnan and Milady in the opening chapter of "Les Trois Mousquetaires". Unfortunately, Dumas ignored that, though there was indeed a bridge in Meung during the Middle Ages, he was destroyed by an ice-flood in 1500... The present location of the bridge was chosen for rebuilding in the 19th century. Unfortunately This historical example of early iron-age engineer's suspended bridges was destroyed during WWII. The bridge of Meung is the only one on the Loire river between Orléans and Beaugency. Please click here if you want to have another view of the bridge.
