This structure is a massive benab (55 feet) high and was built on the lawns of the former Mariner's Club at the North Eastern end of High Street and Battery Road.It was constructed of all indigenous materials by members of the Wai-Wai Tribe on of the nine tribes of Guyana's indigenous people's,primarily to host the Non- Aligned foriegn Ministers Conference, held in Guyana in August 1972.
Umana Yana is an Amerindian that means Meeting Place, today it literally serves as a Meeting Place for various activities and events.
