Very much has been writen about Leonarod da Vinci's very much restored and copied "Last Supper" of Santa Maria dell Graze in recient centuries. Very little has been written about about Giovanni Donato Montorfano's "Crucifixion" on the other wall.
"1492
March 29 Bramante begins the project for the new eastern end (tribuna) of Santa Maria delle Grazie, commissioned by Ludovico Sforza. In this same year, and with the collaboration of the forty-year-old Leonardo, Bramante lays out the new square in Vigevano (southwest of Milan), work that continues until 1496. April 8 Lorenzo de' Medici "Il Magnifico" dies in Florence. August 11 Rodrigo Borgia becomes Pope Alexander VI and reigns until August 18, 1503. October This is the probable date when Giuliano da Sangallo discusses problems of bronze casting with Leonardo in Milan, as is mentioned in Giorgio Vasari's life of Leonardo (Vasari 1906, vol. 4; B 55). In this year Leonardo travels to the Lake Como region in Lombardy, visiting Valtellina, Valsassina, Bellagio, and Ivrea (C.A., fol. 573b-r [formerly fol. 214r-e]; R 1030), possibly motivated by the civil engineering projects in the Valtellina that occupied his rival, Giovanni Antonio Amadeo, from the late 1480s to the early 1490s. By this year Leonardo probably begins his drawings and notes in the Ms. A (Institut de France, Paris)."
