This historic bridge is the first example of a long span lattice-truss bridge on the european mainland. By combining the original american idea of wooden trusses with the tubular concept of the Britannia bridge, Wales. A new type of dense lattice truss structure made iron was developed. This pattern of engineering was then disseminated throughout the continent
