Hey Wanderlust, Your Photos of Foresthill Rd to Soda Springs are amazing. I have been planning to cycle a mountain bike from Auburn to Donner Pass on this route, but am concerned that the roads may be difficult to follow and are poorly marked/signposted. Its about 80 miles or so (I calculate) so will take me about 8 to 10 hours, so I have little margin for making a wrong turn. What's your experience? Greatly appreciate it.
Regards.
Kevin
Kevin,
Thanks for your comments. I think you are referring to the photo at http://www.panoramio.com/photo/9463248.
I left the pavement at French Meadows Reservoir and didn't find it again until I got close to Foresthill. I was on a street bike (motorcycle) and should have been on a dirt bike. It was a pretty rough road, and very remote. My advice if you want to do this on a mountain bike is take a buddy. If you get into trouble out there, you are on your own. It could be a great adventure. Take a good forest service map.
Good Luck,
Jim
Nice ravine shot. I last went through here in 2003. How do you access the mesa top now? (In 2003 I had to ride along the interstate fenceline before picking up a dirt track going up)
