The church is at its oldest about 800 years of age. The tower probably started leaning not long after construction started as the increasing weight of the tower started bearing down on the peaty subsoil. It seems to have stabilized now. The main body of the church is also out of plumb if to a lesser degree. Warning to visitors: badgers have taken to digging up worms in the churchyard and there could be hidden holes to trip the unwary.

This church is not only unusual, but very beautiful, dear Purdey!

Best wishes. Eva

It's a quaint little church Eva. One of my favourites. I hope it stays here forever! Best wishes, purdey

Not quite as well known Christian! Much of the sub-soil in that part of Somerset is peat and it shrinks when it dries out. They had the same problem with this one. All the best, purdey

It would have been able to be the same thing for my church because the village is built on swamps. But it was the photographer who was tilted! ;)Cheers, Christian
