The approach to White Island is quite treacherous - its too far offshore to get to safely by kayak, and there is typically too much swell in the protected portion of the island to safely tie a powerboat or skiff off to anything. The walkway you see in this photo served a cottage that once stood at the peak of the high bluff - it was set ablaze in an arson fire twenty-five years ago. I spent less than fifteen minutes on the island, shooting all the way up and down...
