Mary and Al Palmer bought Jedediah in 1949 – looking for some outdoor adventure for their boys who were raised in the city. The Palmers lived there for about 50 years.

If they wanted medical help, they left a bed-sheet on the roof of the house facing the water. A passing boat would then notify the doctor to come to Jedediah.

The family sold the island in 1999.

It used to be, if you came to Jedediah, you might have been lucky enough to see the feral goats; the local story was they were left behind by the Spanish explorers who named many of the islands in the area. Sadly, the goats were removed in 2004.
