Sand dune sledding! Included in most tours to Cape Reinga is a stop at the sand dunes close to the north end of Ninty Mile Beach. The buses drive through the shallow river bottom as they go to, or come from (depending on the tide schedule) a drive on Ninty Mile beach (which is really more like 90km, but apparently there is a good reason why they haven't corrected it). Even on a day with passing rain, the sand was very fast!
