Remembering this area well, remembing it from the 1950's it had many old stores and houses, all were rundown (poor). I lived 2 blocks away corner Sever and Hampden Street. The area was home to several Black families (good people with roots from the Cival War era).

like i said jim the area sure has been rundown. i blame the landlords who rent to the college age kids; they have no civic respect or responsibility. they're not invested in the community so they don't care if they trash it or not. i wish they'd clean up this field though, it's pretty crappy and the kids deserve a clean, safe place to play.

F.F.I., Your picture shows Ormand street turning near the Armenenian Church. In my era circa 1950's Ormand street ran straight from Highand to John street and where the school is in your picture was a short street called Lily street (about 100 yards long), Ormand to Ashland streets. Remember the corner of Lily and Ormand streets as my first true girlfriend lived there "Judy Glode" we were sweethearts in early 1960's, she married a marine and moved to SC and I went on to college in Boston. I still miss her, but love my wife of 35+ years.
