Εγώ πάντως, σε αυτήν την περίπτωση μιλάω για τους ανθρώπους (τους όποιους υπεύθυνους) που άφησαν το ναό του Απόλλωνος, ειδικά εκείνη τη νύχτα δίχως τον φωτισμό που θα ταίριαζε στο μνημείο,που για αιώνες θυμίζει την πραγματική αρχαία Κόρινθο. Ειδικά εκείνο το βράδυ. Ο φωτισμός υπήρχε,ένα κουμπί ήταν. Αλλά ποιός να ενδιαφερθεί; Αυτοί που "σεβάστηκαν" τον Δίολκο και τοn άφησαν στο έλεος της διάβρωσης από τα διερχόμενα πλοία της διώρυγας; Ποιοί;

I, however, in this case speak for the people (or any officers) who left the temple of Apollo, especially that night,without lighting.That would fit a monument that for centuries reminds us of the Classical Corinth. Especially that night. The lighting was just a button. It's not fair for the temple of the god Apollo to remain in the dark,while the castle to be illuminated, almost every night. A monument that is respected by the time for so many centuries. But who'll take an interest? Those who "respected" the Diolkos and left it at the mercy of erosion from ships transiting the canal? Who?

The Temple of Apollo is a Doric peripteral temple, 6 X 15 columns, constructed ca. 540 B.C. The stylobate which measures 53.82 X 21.48 m. shows some upward curvature. The temple is characterized by monolithic columns quarried from the limestone ridge near the location of the temple. Only seven columns of the temple remain standing in the modern day although elements of the ground plan of the building are visible in the bedrock cuttings. The temple includes a distyle-in-antis pronaos and opisthodomos as well as two cella chambers. The western cella had 4 interior columns and the eastern had 8 interior columns. The archaic temple was built on the site of an earlier seventh century B.C. temple, some remains of which have been excavated from the area of Temple Hill. The monolithic column shafts measure 3.506 m. high and do not show entasis. The column capitals were cut as separate blocks of stone. The sima was likely of terracotta. Angle contraction is noted in the design of the colonnades and the architrave.

In the Roman period, the interior colonnades were removed from the cellas of the structure and the columns were reused in the exterior colonnade at the west end of the forum to the northwest of the South Stoa. In the first century A.D. Roman stoas were built on two sides of the temple to the south and north. In the Roman period, the main entrance of the temple was changed from an easterly to a westerly approach.

They never left.

They never left. They still breathe in here. Like the flowers in springtime. Their perfume exists. Wildflowers that persist.

What if their temples are ravaged, their sacred places are desecrated, their statues are broken and their writings are burned . They are still here!

Their sacred temples were destroyed and demolished. But their remembrance was not washed out?

No, they never left their homeland. There are always in the soil that once gave them birth. They still breathe. Their scent is still around us and it will remain here for as many generations will pass through. Pan Kartsonakis
