Ha -- they do look like giant bird cages! They're really old, and on an ancient farm that's now part of a park. I think they were used for holding corn.
Correct. We used them for storing corn (on the ear) to grind up for feed throughout the year. Occasionally we would use one as a makeshift silo to store corn silage.
Hi dwcace, did you mean these actual silos at the Pole Farm? If so, would love to know! It is a much beloved place for photographing wildlife. Best wishes, pear
Honored to meet you, dwcase! I've spent many hours on your beautiful farm, even in the snow, photographing owls, hawks, swallows. What an incredible place... Many thanks for sharing your memories with me, and hope to see you out there one day! Cheers, pear

We don't have silos like this here, these look like they are for bird cages. :-) They are interesting!

I think so too. We have some like these here for ear corn but they are a bit taller than these.
joyfotos, thanks for that! I thought so, but wasn't sure. Cheers, pear

Yup, we call them corn cribs (silos are typically solid). I filled them up with corn (and emptied them) for almost 20 years.
