Thank you for the wonderful comment, Pierre! I've replied to your explanation back on your photo.

I never submitted this photo to the Official Contest. It's been several months since I boycotted the Contest altogether for the same reason you stated. This was my entry in the January NPC or No-Prize Contest - have you heard of it?

one vote each, no more. that is just the first step, of the many needed to be taken. using links to share similar images or some thing you feel that the user may enjoy is okay, spamming for votes should however be punished by disqualification. tighten the rules, and the voting and hopefully people will get the picture...LOL! I made a funny there... sorry about all of that I have a tendency to get a little silly from time to time...

Hi again Pierre and His Dudeness... Don?

The NPC is a contest created by users on the Forum. As the name says there's no prize, only a fun competition. Each month there is a different subject: this month's was "By the Rivers." Each Panoramio user can submit one photo and vote for a certain number depending on the total number of entries. The user with the most votes wins and moderates the next month's contest. For many of us it's become a fun alternative to the Official Contest.

You both have a point. But I think limiting the number of votes won't stop the vote-hunting. It might even increase it. Disqualifying spammers would be a great improvement... but how would it be enforced?

Anyway the contest needs a lot of changes before it will be actually beneficial to Panoramio instead of just causing fights. And so far the Team hasn't said a word about reworking it. I'm thinking of starting a petition to bring the contest issue to the Team's awareness... anyone think it's a good idea?

I'm in. that might be what is needed, the fighting is just silly. as for my suggestion about dqing, it would be up to the user affected to report it but even that has problems I suppose.

Oh and yes it is I, Don. this is my other page for heavily altered photographs and strangeness. sorry for the confusion.

If I may add a word about the NPC ... An advantage of it is that the way it's set up, you can (and should) look at all the entries. That way you can make reasoned decision about where to use the allowed number of votes for that month. I've found it very enjoyable.

And speaking of enjoyable, I always enjoy looking again at this wonderful photo!

very good point. I usually do my voting for the official contest in a similar manner and go to the category that I want to look at and see all the entrys. takes a while but it is nice to see them side by side.
