Avant l'arrivée des machines à laver, la lessive se faisait aux fontaines du village (jusque vers les années 50). Ces réunions obligées des ménagères constituaient en quelque sorte un journal local, non dépourvu d'intérêt.

Lovely shot of the clothes washers. I realize im most places in Europe - as in my motherland, Galicia-NW Spain- the laundry was usually made at public fountains. We still keep "Lavadoiros" (Spanish: "lavaderos") quite singular and of architectorical interest mostly at villages and small towns.
