The lights in the foreground are Case de Oro and Spring Valley. Fortunately the wind shifted as the sun rose and those houses were saved from the fire.
Shot from Mt Helix in La Mesa CA looking towards the southeast across Casa De Oro and Mt Miguel. Taken on the morning of Oct 23, 2007.
Huh, really scary ...
Fortunately the wind shifted and none of the homes seen in this pic were lost but it was definitely scary. CNN ran this as the lead picture for the web coverage of the fires.
Oh dear this looks really terrible and yet fascinating too.
AL1612 yes it was beautiful and terrifying to watch the wall of flames and such a relief when the winds changed and spared all of those homes!

Thanks for your comment Mira Plecko - it was very scary but fortunately the winds shifted and the homes in the shot were saved! It's amazing how powerless we are in the fact of nature's fury.
