With the advent of GPS and super accurate marine Navigation Charts, one would think the "PRUDENT LAKE MARINER" would be able to avoid bashing the reef between Middle Bass Island, and Sugar Island.
It is great fun to watch a boat going full bore come to a complete stop on that reef.
Nearby Middle Bass Residents who sit out on their lawn chairs, receive great "entertainment" nearly every summer weekend.... CCRRRUUUUNCHHHH!!!!
And the Marinas who sell propellers and prop shafts, receive many "referrals" from this reef.
(Alligator Reef next to Gibralter Island is similar.)

On the SE side of NB is also a reef. When we first moved there, we took out boat out and saw'fish jumping'....it was the first time that we sheared a pin! it took us all day to paddle and pull the boat to shore. One of many fond memories of the islands. we too but chuckle at the silly mainlanders who would hit this reef.

Yes, that is called "WEST REEF". If I find any pictures of it, I will put them on Panaramio. I think I may have some of a big ICE SHOVE... Piled up over 30 feet high one year, when the wind blew and the ice broke up.
