Shire Oak commands quite a view over Sandhills to the northeast, and a good place to take it in is at the gateway of the quarry on the Chester Road. From here, he landscape pans out toward Lichfield. In the middleground is the hamlet of Springhill (once the location of an isolation hospital, now long demolished) and further up the Lichfield Road is what remains of Summerhill, mostly destroyed by the construction of the M6 toll.
