Very beautiful, Sergio! A real nice place! Greets, Wolf

Sergio Canobbio on September 9, 2008

Thank you very much, Wolf! Lake Tovel is almost... magic.

ANDRE GARDELLA on September 9, 2008

Yes, there is magic in this place and one would expect to see a white unicorn appearing from the shadows on the left.

And thanks, Sergio for letting us discover, with the digital magnifying glass, all the amazing details of this Fantasia landscape.

Greetings from Japan.

Thank you for your visit, Andre.

Lake Tovel is beautiful and, yes, you can feel some Miyazaki's atmosphere here, too, even if it's in Italy... The Nature message is almost univeral.

Ciao Sergio! voglio farti i miei complimenti per questa foto... ma mi viene difficile: sono SENZA FIATO!!!!

Sergio Canobbio on September 10, 2008

Grazie mille, antorenz. A die il vero il merito è tutto di... Madre Natura. Anche senza il rosso, il Tovel è il lago più bello che abbia mai visto!

antorenz on September 10, 2008

nooooooooo!

ancora complimenti!

I have one question about this lake, dear Sergio. I read that last time it became red 40 years ago. Is it a truth and now it's impossible to see this phenomenon?!

Saluti, Eva

Sergio Canobbio on September 30, 2008

Hi Eva! I hope you enjoyed your Italian holiday :)

Yes, unfortunately last time Lake Tovel became red was in 1964. There were some other "small" phenomena in the '60s, mid '70s and early '80s, but nothing comparable. There is a research project (project SALTO) to investigate why this didn't happen anymore. They found the "red" phenomenon is due to an alga (Glenodinium sanguineum) and that, probably, it doesn't happen anymore because of local climatic changes (due to a dam) and, most of all, because of.. less nutrient pollution in the lake!

Tante grazie, Sergio, per il commento!

My father 50 years ago seen in the Caucasus mountains a red snow. This is probably a similar phenomenon.

Saluti, Eva
