Calaveras Big Trees State Park, North Grove Panorama with Autumn Dogwood Colors
Comment added five years later: The dogwood colors are not so brilliant every year -- it can depend a lot on weather. How much rainfall, how much heat, how much cold, can all affect how the dogwood changes in the autumn. This past summer (2013), crews cut back a lot of the dogwood (including much of what you see in this photo) because the lack of naturally-occurring fires means the dogwood itself becomes a fire hazard. Not only that, but it had grown so much that the overgrowth was obscuring the views of the giant trees for which the park is named. But no worries, there is still plenty of dogwood left, and it always comes back!
