This is the area that should be under water. This Anchor Reservoir has never been at capacity and probably never will. The dam is fine. But the ground will not hold the water.

That's tragic! ;-) (or maybe better for the ecology of the region?) - I suppose there has been no analysis before building the dam, is it an old one?

Best regards from Germany, Ralf

The dam was started in 1957 and completed in 1960. The sink holes were not able to be successfully plugged. The dam itself is in excellent shape and is well built. The reservoir still holds water for irrigation for part of the summer, but that's it. As far as an analysis goes, they knew that the ground had fissures and holes during the construction. Also, it seems that the local Indians told the Bureau of Reclamation (BR) that the ground wouldn't hold water. But the BR didn't think they knew what they were talking about. Apparently, they did.
