It is a HDR composition of 3 pictures with different exposures.
The original pictures are disappointing:
Either the landscape is black or there is some color in the landscape, but the sky and the top of the mountains are white.
Greetings, Gebhard

Hi Dr. I have recently been checking the HDR photos in Panoramio, and have to admit that I am very impressed with how HDR can add that extra impace to an image. When my photographic eye improves, I will have to learn how to use this technology. However, I love this image that you have posted, and look forward to seeing more of your work.
Peace, Manack

Thank you for your comment, kuka! Nubra Valley is really a wonderful place and together with Tibet, where I have been in 1993, it is one of the most impressive regions I have seen.

Thank you for your kind comment, vivek!
But it is the marvelous country which gives so deep impressions. My camera had problems to show a little bit of the atmosphere here in a region near the heaven. It is really a paradise!

... but don't hurry, carsten, go slow, very slow: the air is very thin there and you have to cross mountains, more than 5600m in height!

Es ist ein Produkt der Bildbearbeitung: Das unglaubliche Abendlicht in kristallklarer Luft konnte ich nicht festhalten, da versagte die Technik.

Great pic Dr. Gaukler. When was you there?. I saw Nat Geo programme "Perilous Journey" from Leh to Diskit. It was really a dangerous trip. Did you experienced the mountain sickness?. What is your advise for people who want to go there. Thank you. Greetings from Indonesia.

Thank you for your comment, adi0687!
I was in Ladakh in 2006. The elevation of the capital Leh is about 3500 meters and the highest point of our journey was 5600 meters. About mountain sickness: Most people have mountain sickness during the first days. But there is no way to prevent this disease. Some people never had problems before and next time they are very sick. Best is to stay at the hotel for the first day and then to start very slowly and don't forget to drink water. A great problem in such countries are gastro-intestinal diseases: never eat unboiled food - but it is hard to follow that advice.
