My apologies for such a late response folks.

The viewpoint for this photo is probably the most popular choice for many photographers and artists. The pond, when there is no breeze, gives a perfect mirror image, thus enhancing cosiderably the overall effect.

May I thank all of you that have visited this photo and for the many nice comments that have been made here.

Antonietta Thats a nice compliment

Simona, I enjoy your great comments

Marcello, I,m glad you liked it.

Stephan, Always a pleasure to see you here.

2c I am determined to capture a B+W shot when the sky looks mean and moody.

Marilyn, the sun took a long time to shine in the UK this year.

Beth, it was a sweet light and 'St Hilda' looked so photogenic.

Victor Your Y* is most encouraging and greatly appreciated

Anna, I think that you are getting to know your way around these parts !! *(-j^)

Mauricia--It has a special ambience, an aura that cannot be defined. Perhaps this is what we all feel when visting places of great antiquity.

John. I learned a little on TV today, some of the secrets in the building of such magnificent structures. Much of the intricate masonary was carved to great accuracy with the aid of templates and the stone arches were built around joiner-made wooden formers.(or centres)

KasiaD. you are right, it has a special magnetic like attraction. I have always been overawed by this stunning Abbey built high on the headland.

Tiopeppe8 Your words are most encouraging*

Sam, This old ruin was bombarded by a fleet of German battleships during WW1 inflicting much severe and permanent damage.

Beatriz, I am so happy you stayed a while.

Lina, It is always a pleasure when you stop by. --(-j^)

Gabe, I would loved to have been around to see this in its heyday. I can almost imagine the echoing sounds of monks chanting their songs and prayers.

Miguel Muchas gracias por sus amable comentarios. un saludo

Boris, I am fortunate living so close to such wonderful historic places.

Juanjo especially for the Y*, I am moved.

And Paula, I'm sure yours is much better.

Thanks for dropping in everyone.

Greetings and welcome back shieldc, you have been missing for too long.

As always Arma, its good to see you here again.

Criss RB--Thanks for your nice appraisal.

That is a very good question Joerg, I think that the wealth of the Abbey was confiscated by King Henry VIII. Then, the Lord of the Manor being a loyal supporter of the crown, took away (vandalised the remains) much of the fabric of the building to create his own magnificent dwelling next to the Abbey, much of it can be seen in my other photos. The cost of re-building it today would be prohibitive.

Dear Cuky, your words are so fitting and I like your description of the Abbey standing like a sentinal guarding the past times.

Thanks my friends for stopping here a while.--Jim

It is always a pleasure to meet friends old and new and so I thank you for visiting my gallery.

Your description stately, is most fitting for the Abbey Johan, It must have been a most impressive building before the 'Dissolution'.

You are most welcome DiggaTwigga, this view of the old ruin is one which is most easily recognised.

Dear Sean, It is always a nice surprise when you visit and your appraisal is most valued.

Warmest wishes to you all---Jim

Incredible that something beautiful like this is a ruin! What's the history of this Abbey. Did the germans bombe it in WWII?

Great shot!!
