Excellent shot of Stewartby chimneys! Was there a temperature inversion making the smoke go closer to the ground or was it blowing off towards Bedford?

Hello William, You are right about the temperature having an effect on the dispersal of the smoke. The picture was taken on a very cold and frosty Boxing day with little or no wind. I presume the smoke met a layer of air of a different temperature and just wafted off towards the horizon at that altitude. Regards Geoff.

A impressive picture of stewartby, captured in a very interesting way too. You pictures have great style.

This is a sight that will soon be a thing of the past. It has been announced that the brick works is to cease production in early 2008 largely due to the problems associated with meeting new regulations on emissions using the local clay. Some of the chimneys and the two last remaining working kilns are to be preserved. Not particularly attractive, but an important part of the history of the area.

Would you allow me to use this photograph on my Powerpoint slides to illustrate atmospheric pollutant dispersion? I teach Engineering Meteorology at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Of course, I would indicate your name as the copyright holder on the slide.
