View in full size to get a good look at the baby turkeys! A poult is the technical term for a baby turkey; I saw them walking along the Skyline Drive on my way home from a nice hike along the Riprap Trail.

Quite a capture, Brandon! I was relieved to look at the date: I hoped they weren't that young this time of year! Those would be a confused (and imprudent) pair of turkeys if they were.
Recently playing a game at a baby shower for our grandson-to-be, I was the only one in the room who knew the word "poult." It was nice to see that you used it today.

Thanks Marilyn! I have a pretty big backlog of photos, I had forgotten about this one until I went back looking for the swimming hole shot that I also just put up. I'd be worried too if the babies were still this young.

Thanks Bruce, it's a pretty rare shot for me too these days. When I was working on Long Island two summers ago I used to see them all the time -- the lab I worked on was situated on a 5000 acre former military base, mostly all woods now. Almost every day I would see deer, turkeys, or geese on my way in to work.
Talking about missing a great shot though -- yesterday I was hiking the Riprap loop again, and on the ride back home I saw a bobcat cross the road! I stopped my car and watched it slowly climb the bank and move off through the woods. It was the first time I'd ever seen one in the wild. Too bad I couldn't get a good shot of it!

Perhaps it's just the scale, but that looks like one enormous bird.

It didn't look like a particularly large turkey if I recall. I took the shot from my car, zoomed in all the way, then I cropped the shot before I uploaded it. Of course, turekys are pretty large birds anyway.

They go very well with cranberry sauce this time of year! :D Sorry that was in bad taste, but I could not help myself! A great shot! Best wishes Sam
