On Friday, 26 September 2008, I went into work and recalled to several people how others had been saying that now was the time to buy Washington Mutual stock as recently as Wednesday since it could only go up. One of the individuals who I spoke with had bought stock when it was at $6, then again at $3 in order to try and make up the loss. He thought that Washington Mutual was simply too big to go under. In total he had sunk $5000. "That was my wife's retirement," he said. When he was last trying to sell the stock that morning, people were offering to sell at 13 cents but no one was offering to buy.
