This is a church that has way too much money and forgot what the lord said about helping those in need. They need some humility passed at the plate instead of more money.

It's the one thing that liberals hate more than George Bush! The Son of God, Jesus Christ, who died for the sins of all mankind (even mine) so that we don't have to suffer the pains of Hell, but rather the joys of Heaven. He's the one they hate because they know that killing babies is a sin, being queer is a sin, and all those other anti-moral things that make a liberal proud to be anti-family, anti-God, and anti-moral. As long as HE's out there in their vision, they feel bad about being evil! And those who complain about 'the waste of money'... two q's: 1. Do you know who built it and who paid for it (and how much)? 2. Just how much did you give to the poor? I know 1st hand about this church and their giving to the human race - right up to the Darlene Bishop Home for life (that big building just south of the main building) where teen girls with problems can go (totally free) for full-time help. Their working with the homeless, with single moms, and a long list of other things.

I don't like to post to these things but to clarify my point. First I am not a liberal nor am I a conservative, I am middle of the road and I am a Christian. I give to those in need with my money but mostly with my time. This to me is a showing of pride and pride is one of the seven deadly sins. I am not without sin myself as none of us are. But a church, it seems to me, should the last place to be showing pride in this fashion. I stand by my previous post that the money spent on this prideful display could have been better spent. After all, when we join the Heavenly Father we will be judged by our works not the money we spent. I am not judging but I would rather hear about your good works than hear the scornful remarks made because of this prideful showing.

What most people do not understand is that this wonderful church has given over millions of dollors in missions at home and around the world, they have built orphanages in Brazil and other places. The Jesus that the world makes in fun of one day will be their judge and I would not want to stand in their shoes, just ask the ones in noahs days how they made in fun of noah and was destroyed. God have mercy on the ones who scorn Solid Rock Church, we are really doing a great work for God. How come the strip clubs can post a picture of pornography out in public and the world will not say any thing and larry flint and hugh hefner would not do any good for you matter of fact they are destroying most familys and their homes with their filthy, smutty, garbage the promote, The Great thing that is so awsome is God loves them he just hates their sin. So come see Jesus at Solid Rock Church and you will see how much we love you and God.

First off, a relationship with Jesus is just that, a relationship. As opposed to popular belief in our modern world relationships aren't reality shows the world shares it is a personal experience each man and woman can share and worship on their own. Every time I drive past this statue I have a moment of the spirit in my car without any church. I do not tithe to this church. I have never visited a service. I appreciate the overwhelming urge to look at "The Overtaker" and think about Jesus and what that means to ME. That's right ME. Not the church. Not the Pastor. God is not a charity event. God always provides to those who have faith. And not all poor are poor due to circumstances alone. For every 1,000 people that are poor due to circumstances beyond their control and further than faith alone can stop. There are 5,000 that way because they refused the help they refused the other way. They chose their path. But you know of the milliions of dollars a mega church like that spends on missions it does not take questionaires out to Brazil before it builds to see if they made the right choices they just do it because their relationship with the Lord compels them to. That is not pride. As far as pride, what are they proud of by putting a huge Jesus up to block the view of their beautifully architected church, their lord? To me that's called Reverence and the display in public is worship. As far as pride is concerned putting the statue behind the church by the road not by the highway would be prideful.

Every time that I drive by that damned thing I wonder just how stupid the members of that church are. I love the nutters who talk about God's way and doing the work of God. The same nutty thinking has our children getting slaughtered in Iraq so that Chinese oil companies can cut deals for oil. Great stuff. Thank you George W. and all the religious freaks in south west Ohio.

MONROE, Ohio – A six-story-tall statue of Jesus Christ with his arms raised along a highway was struck by lightning in a thunderstorm Monday night and burned to the ground, police said.

The "King of Kings" statue, one of southwest Ohio's most familiar landmarks, had stood since 2004 at the evangelical Solid Rock Church along Interstate 75 in Monroe, just north of Cincinnati.

The lightning strike set the statue ablaze around 11:15 p.m., Monroe police dispatchers said.

The sculpture, 62 feet tall and 40 feet wide at the base, showed Jesus from the torso up and was nicknamed Touchdown Jesus because of the way the arms were raised, similar to a referee signaling a touchdown. It was made of plastic foam and fiberglass over a steel frame, which is all that remained early Tuesday.

The fire spread from the statue to an adjacent amphitheater but was confined to the attic area, and no one was injured, police Chief Mark Neu said. The fire department would release a monetary damage estimate Tuesday, he said.

Travelers on Interstate 75 often were startled to come upon the huge statue by the roadside, but many said America needs more symbols like it. So many people stopped at the church campus that church officials had to build a walkway to accommodate them.

The 4,000-member, nondenominational church was founded by former horse trader Lawrence Bishop and his wife. Bishop said in 2004 he was trying to help people, not impress them, with the statue. He said his wife proposed the Jesus figure as a beacon of hope and salvation and they spent about $250,000 to finance it.

Lomar_2, understand, you athiest prat, maybe they used that money to make the statue not for pride, but to symbol they believe in God. That was a very symbolic statue and beacon to other athiest's to believe in God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit and to thank them for what Jesus did for them.

Hey Todd, when you start you comment with an insult and follow it up with a hypothetical; all you are doing is waving an angry, empty finger.

That statue (past tense) changed no minds and spent a lot of money doing it. Do you think GOD's wrath burned it down as a fiery marshmallow testament? What ever happened, someone, somewhere, has a sense of humor.
