Hi Don, Hope your well & the Canadian weathers treating you fine! sure is man made! This is the old Grand Canal built around 1784 that ran from Dublin to the river Shannon in the west, (about 82 miles long). It now is used for pleasure craft, a nice chilled way to travel, delighted you like the new stuff!

Warmest regards from Dublin h

Bautiful. I like riverside places like this.

Greetings

2c, on October 8, said:

Hi Dávid, Good to hear from you and i hope your well! This is indeed a beautiful place, but one thing that saddens me that rarely happens in Ireland nowdays, In the very foreground (out of shot), someone had dumped bags of rubbish at this beautiful scene. It is beyond me how people can do this.

Warmest regards from Dublin h

Gotta love these canals! A fine shot with great lines! Those navigation channels are very straight compared to those on the Barrow valley. Imagine the labour gone into their construction!

2c, on October 9, said:

Hi Gerry,

This view is looking towards Digby bridge (Sallins - Dublin way). This section here is great, very straight manmade canal as you can see on the map, This section was built around 1784, quite a wonder for its time. as far as I know you can sail from the Grand canal to the barrow. Just upstream about a couple miles from here at lowtown is the milltown feeder, which brings boats down to the barrow section at Athy! Get sailin Gerry!

Best regards h

Beautiful h. Great reflections, colour, detail...the whole nine yards. Well done. This really looks like a classic landscape painting.

Best regards, Tom

No sailing down in the Barrow valley at my home town. No puff for the sails - very calm and sheltered there! Horse-drawn barges and later engine driven one were required to haul the Guinness down from Dublin! Was amazed to see sail-boats on the canals in Holland.

2c, on October 10, said:

Hi Gerry!, It that north sea wind N it been so flat! Did you ever take a cruiser on the Shannon! Toy sailing i know! but a great experience

Regards h

2c, on October 10, said:

Hi Tom,

Really delighted you like it, It has that classic feel alright, I think its the colour palette n that big tree on the left! Only following in the footsteps of the American landscape master Tom L!

Keep well H

Hi h - not surprised this is picking up lots of comments - a real painting like feel - maybe John Constable or some such. Nice work. Graham

2c, on October 10, said:

Hi Graham,

Great to hear from you, hope your well and settled into your new house! Delighted you like this. A couple people picked up on the painting feel of this, some mentioned it reminded them of Constable. I think there is certain things that trip the painting feel here like the colour palette, the big tree on the left and the feel of the sky & water, here's a constable to compare , see what you think! We were both born in Suffolk if that helps!

Hi h - I stayed at Flatford Mill **@~! years ago when it was a field studies centre (might still be) and I was a biology undergraduate. Lovely area. I guess Suffolk does things to people, so you might have drunk something i with the Adnams Ale. Cheers, Graham

2c, on October 10, said:

Hi Graham,

Never got a chance for the adnams ale as my parents moved back to Ireland when i was still quite young! Flatford mill! Amazing place to stay i would say given it's place in English Culture!

Co kildare is quite similar to suffolk in many ways, pretty flat, big cereal fields, vast skies and of course a horse & racing centre! Happy memories of suffolk/newmarket i must say!

Have a great weekend & thanks for dropping by! Warmest regards from Dublin h
