This place must be a hive of memories for so many people. Over my right shoulder is a bend in the river that afforded a bundle of Derby School geography trippers to cool off. At night we walked to the High Street. Here... and I must check exactly which pub... I walked in with two of my Parka clad, bovver booted mates and bought three pints of bitter. Don't get me wrong... buying bitter from an off licence was not new. Getting served in a pub at the age of 14 or 15 certainly was. Piston broke after two we quietly strolled back to this place. I'm sure.

YHA not YMCA! Sadly, there was a lot of damage to the grounds during the recent floods (trees down, stumps washed on to the grass and much of the grass covered in stones.)The hostel itself had 2 or 3 feet of water in the basement but it's OK now. Visited the place for the first time myself when I was about 14 or 15 - the night Marilyn Monroe died. Now I live in the town.

Changed title but remember it as YMCA... probably just me. Or the song ! Our thoughts have been with the townsfolk of Cockermouth, and around, over the last few months. All the best wishes.
