To the left of this establishment are two ways. One is a gate over a cattle grid that allows you into the car park. To the rear there once was a bar that allowed several 15 year old visiting Derby School boys to imbibe alcohol in copious amounts back in 1970 ish. Some of them, Like Finnegan, ate picked eggs like Cool Hand Luke. The other way leads past Bleaberry Tarn to the crest. From there it is a simple thing to walk the ridge and descend to Gatesquarthdale Beck and back along the noth side of Buttermere. Unless you are Andy Dean and run down the scree only to lie in the path of a following boulder.

....or in the early 70s you could stop off at the farm just by and ask the woman looking at you and the rest of yer mates who were doin' the Duke of Edinburg's if yer could buy some milk coz y'all were starvin'. She pulled it from a machine where t'milk ran over some cooling bars and into a jug forus.

Or some years later when you were crossing the field up to Crummock from here where t'farmer wa keeping his lambing ewes, one o lambs crept under electric wire and came and nuzzled into one of my lambs, resplendent in his one piece suit and wellies. It wa so funny this little lamb pushing into my little lad, folks all around were tekking pictures an all.

By, these are good memories *Russ.
