The nearby inscription says: "This windmill was donated by the Dutch community to the City of Guelph to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the city. October 1977"

Hi Marilyn

Nice to see some European craftmanship in Canada. This summer we have seen rather many of this Dutch type here in Denmark. See some of them here

Greetings Mogens.

Without reading your comment, I suspected the Dutch influence in this one... Nice shot Marilyn... :D

Hello Marilyn Beautiful and interesting picture. They donateda lot of tulips bulbs to the City of Ottawa and this windmill to the City of Gulph I don't know if it is for the same reasons. You will have to go back and take a picture in May it should be full of tulips around the mills. Cheers, Sylvie

Thank you, Mogens, Andre, and Sylvie. I believe this windmill was given by people living in our city who are Dutch emigrants and their families. Some years there has been a large bed of tulips nearby; I'll have to look next spring.

I think Ottawa now supplements the tulip bulbs that have traditionally been a gift of the government of the Netherlands. I've been to the festival but I've never taken pictures. I've certainly enjoyed yours, Sylvie, and maybe I'll do it this spring since we expect to have a grandchild to visit there. I predict that our trips to Ottawa will become more frequent!

Cheers, Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,

I was surprised to see a windmill in your thumbnails, so I had to take a closer look. Thanks for the information.

Larry, I certainly wouldn't mind a quick trip to the real land of windmills! However that's not on the agenda right now. We've other places to go and things to see.

A nicely built windwill, fitting in to the autumn scenery. Kasia

Marilyn Whiteley on October 19, 2008

Thank you, Kasia. I'll also look at it next spring to see whether it fits with spring scenery, too! Marilyn

This one of the symbols of Netherlands or Holland if you which! I would like to see these windmills up close but I don`t have resources, so I virtual travel! Thank you for sharing!

Friendly Salutations, JLourenco
